Welcome to Year 6

The teacher in 6H is Mr Harvey and the teacher in 6C is Miss Cornell. The Teacher Assistant supporting Year 6 is Miss Rogers. We are all very much looking forward to working alongside you to help your children develop over this important school year.

Please help your child with learning  their spellings and completing homework, enabling us to achieve our full potential. Spellings will be given out on Friday and tested the following Friday. English and Maths homework will be given out on Friday and should be handed on the following Wednesday.

Please make sure your child has a full PE kit in school for their PE lessons. 6H will have P.E. on Mondays. 6C will have P.E. on Fridays. Home Reading Records will be checked on Mondays. Please keep an eye out for all letters sent home and on the website for up and coming events such as; inspire workshops, reading with parents, where we welcome any member of the family or family friend to come and spend time with us while we help and encourage the next generation to learn through fun activities.

Autumn 1

In our first half-term we focus on place value and the four operations is the focus for maths. In English we will begin with creative writing week (focusing on The Switch), and then delve into a novel titled Stitchhead, which will inspire our writing. In addition, the children will be designing and making cushions based on Stitchhead during DT week.

The topic is Crime and Punishment in history, where we will be learning about and then comparing comparing  systems of justice throughout the ages. For science we will be learning about human bodies, adding onto knowledge gained in lower key stage two, and writing reports. In RE we will learn about Sikhism, and in computing the children will be coding, a continuation of what they began in year five. In P.E. we will be practising the skills for and playing handball.
