Welcome to Year 3!

The teacher in 3R is Mr Robinson and the teachers in 3W are Miss Wright and Mr Bateman. The teacher assistants supporting Year 3 are Mrs Watson and Mrs McCormack. We are all very much looking forward to working alongside you to help your children develop over this school year. 

Please help your child with learning their times tables, spellings and completing homework, enabling us to achieve our full potential. Spellings will be given out on Monday and tested the following Monday. English and Maths homework will be given out on Thursday and should be handed on the following Wednesday.

Please make sure your child has a full PE kit in school for their PE lessons which will be on Mondays and Tuesdays. Children will also require a swimming kit for their swimming lessons, which will be on Mondays during Autumn 1for 3R and Autumn 2 for 3W.

This half term we will be learning:

Maths: Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division

English: Descriptive writing, narrative, letter writing, poetry

Plan their writing by beginning to discuss writing similar to that which they are planning to write in order to understand and learn from its structure, vocabulary and grammar. Plan their writing by beginning to discuss and record ideas. Draft and write by composing and rehearsing simple sentence structures orally (including dialogue), progressively building a varied and rich vocabulary and an increasing range of sentence structures Draft and write by organising simple paragraphs around a theme. Draft and write by creating simple settings, characters and a basic plot in narratives. Evaluate and edit by beginning to assess the effectiveness of their own and others' writing and suggesting improvements. Evaluate and edit by beginning to propose changes to grammar and vocabulary to improve consistency, including the accurate use of pronouns in sentences Proof-read for some spelling and punctuation errors. Read aloud their own writing, to a group or the whole class, using increasing intonation and control of tone and volume so that the meaning is clear. Capital letters, full stops, commas, question marks, exclamation mark, (5 tick sentences) I can add -ful and -less to words to make adjectives and use them correctly to add detail in my writing. β€˜A’ or β€˜AN’ Develop their understanding of the concepts set out in English Appendix 2 by extending the range of sentences with more than one clause by using a wider range of conjunctions, including when, if, because, although.
