Introduction to SEND at Birches Green Juniors

Birches Green Junior School's Graduated Response to Special Educational Needs

Our aim is for all children to reach their full potential through excellence and enjoyment in a challenging, safe, personalised environment where everyone is equally valued and has a sense of belonging.

Parents' Views Count!

Following our Annual review of the Inclusion Website, we have made changes which we think have improved the information that parents need.

One parent commented, "Now I know it's there, I will go onto the website and use it. It's easy to read and understand."

Recent Inclusion Activities

inclusion

Throughout the year we organise many events to include children of all abilities and talents. Activities include many sporting events, challenges with other schools, Breakfast Club during SATs week and putting on Art Exhibitions.

Hold the Front Page!

Year 5 children became reporters for the morning alongside fellow pupils from nearby Primary schools. They wrote headlines, read the news and tried to summarise a news clip for Twitter.

We regularly meet up with children from other schools to try a variety of thought provoking activities . . . we all need a challenge.

New Bug Hotel Opens!

Miss Frost and children from Year 4 have built a new hotel-for bugs! Using reclaimed bricks, pots and drain pipes we have made a cosy residence for minibeasts and small creatures. Whether they like their home to be dry, wet, damp or just comfortable there will be a room waiting.

The first customers have already moved in!

Transition

Transition is very important to us. We have a year long programme with Year 2 of Birches Green Infants School to ensure that the move from KS1 to KS2 is as enjoyable and stress free as possible. Parents are invited to get actively involved.

One parent said, It was very interactive, made my child feel at ease, gave him an insight to what's to come.

A Year 2 child said, It was brilliant. I'm looking forward to coming here.

We all remember our first day at Secondary School and we endeavour to make sure Year 6 are ready to make that all important move. We have established links with Kingsbury School and can arrange visits to other local schools.

If you have any questions, please contact Miss Frost (Inclusion Manager)
