Our history curriculum aims to inspire our pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past. History helps pupils to understand the process of change and the diversity of societies, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time.

During their time at Birches Green, children will ask perceptive questions, think critically, compare and contrast societies throughout history, order events, examine and analyse primary resources, weigh evidence, sift arguments and develop perspective and judgment.

History lessons are focused on engaging the children with the course content. The lessons help the topic “come alive” for the children through use of artefacts, videos, trips and workshops. Children place themselves in the shoes of people who lived through these time periods.
